Method and system for obtaining positioning data

Methods and systems for obtaining two or three-dimensional coordinate data relating to a positional element 14 are disclosed. The element may be used as an input device for a computer 10. The element includes a first emitter that emits a continuous ultrasonic waveform modulated to be decodable to fix the element's position. A detector arrangement 22 is used to detect and decode the waveform to determine the element's position.
