<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type image display apparatus with a structure capable of eliminating degradation in the performance of an optical unit caused by heat generation and exhibiting desired optical performance. <P>SOLUTION: This apparatus is equipped with: a light source 10; an illumination optical system; transmissive or reflective image display elements 42R, 42G, 42B, 450R, 450G, 450B for R, G, B colors; a cross dichroic prism 41, 410 as a light synthesizing means; and a projection lens 60 housed in a chassis. In the apparatus, the transmissive or reflective image display elements for R, G, B colors are mounted as integrated on different faces of the cross dichroic prism, and the cross dichroic prism can be detachably attached to a tongue-like fixing section 73 formed in an incident surface side of the projection lens. Thereby, in degradation in the performance, the image display element unit can be exchanged with a new unit as required by a simple operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
