<p>The method is for the operation of an internal combustion engine with an excess oxygen input. Fuel and water are injected into at least one combustion chamber where combustion occurs with the use of a catalyzer material in the combustion chamber during combustion, hydrogen is produced from the fuel and/or the water and/or the combustion products, whereby the hydrogen with at least parts of the residual oxygen from the oxygen excess input is brought to combustion. Combustion takes place in a self-ignition engine. The water and fuel are mixed and are injected as an emulsion. The catalyzer is iron or an iron compound and/or the water employed is fully desalted. The residual oxygen portion in the combustion chamber amounts to at least 8 per cent and/or the water amount in the fuel volume is up to 30 per cent. During combustion, pressures of at least 20 bar and combustion temperatures of at least 600 degrees Celsius are produced. Injection is preferred between 7 degrees before top dead center and 10 degrees after top dead center.</p> |
