PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and economical method of gradually inflating an airbag. SOLUTION: A generator generates at least one part of gas from combustion of a solid charge 9 housed inside the generator. The charge has a main charge having 25 mm/s or more of linear burning velocity V1 at a pressure of 20 MPa and a surface of the main charge is, at least partially, covered with an outside coating having linear burning velocity V2, which satisfies the relation 0.05 V1≤V2≤0.5 V1 at a pressure of 20 MPa, and the whole of the surface of the main charge functions as a burning starting surface of the main charge.
