PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide litter sand for a pet, consisting of an active bentonite excellent in swelling/solidifying properties, also having a hollow cylindrical shape, having a good appearance characteristic and excellent in light weight property. SOLUTION: The litter sand for the pet, consisting of a active bentonite-formed material is characterized in that the active bentonite has a composition; Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>/SiO<SB>2</SB>=0.08-0.13, and Na<SB>2</SB>O/SiO<SB>2</SB>=0.0025-0.08 expressed by molar ratio based on oxide, and a paste prepared by drying the bentonite for 3 hr at 150°C and then being mixed with 1.0 ml water per 1 g shows a peak at 2θ=4-5°in an X-ray diffraction measurement (Cu-κα), and also the formed material has the hollow cylindrical shape.
