PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispensing device and a method for determining the presence or absence of air bubbles in piping in the dispensing device and capable of accurately determining the presence or absence of air bubbles in piping with only one pressure sensor without being affected by disturbances such as noise. SOLUTION: A liquid is filled in the piping connected to a dispensing nozzle. The liquid is moved through the piping to draw a liquid sample containing a specimen or a reagent from the dispensing nozzle by suction. The dispensing device performs dispensation by discharging the liquid sample drawn by suction. The method determines the presence or absence of air bubbles in the piping in the dispensing device. The dispensing device 1 is provided with a determination means 14 for performing Fourier transform on the temporal waveform of pressure oscillations which occur due to pressure applied to the piping 2 and determining the presence or absence of air bubbles in the piping 2 on the basis of a peak value of an acquired frequency. The method for determining the presence or absence of air bubbles includes a process for applying pressure to the piping; a process for performing Fourier transform on the temporal waveform of pressure oscillations which occur in the piping due to the applied pressure; and a process for determining the presence or absence of air bubbles in the piping on the basis of the peak value of the frequency acquired by Fourier transform.
