PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 5-fluorouracil efficiently under moderate conditions. SOLUTION: This method for producing 5-fluorouracil comprises the following processes. (1) A process of effecting an enzyme on 5-fluorocytosine to produce 5-fluorouracil and ammonia; (2) A process of producing glutamic acid and an oxidation type coenzyme by effecting a glutamic acid dehydrogenase on ammonia, 2-oxo glutaric acid and a reduction type coenzyme produced in the process (1); and (3) A process of regenerating the reduction type coenzyme and 2-oxo glutaric acid by effecting isocitric acid dehydrogenase on the oxidation type coenzyme and isocitric acid produced in the process (2).
