<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which enables the smooth switching of the visual recognition brightness in display between stereoscopic and flat images while securing the brightness and ready visibility in the display of the flat images. <P>SOLUTION: When an LCD barrier 83 is switched from the on to off position, just at the end of the off position of the LCD barrier 83, for example, for several seconds, the luminance of the flat image displayed on a display panel 82 is gradually decreased.
