PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hinge device of a simple structure capable of providing desired free stop. SOLUTION: A cam portion 3 and a cam engagement portion 4 capable of being engaged with the cam portion 3 are disposed relatively rotatably on a rotating shaft portion 5, a frictional contact portion 7 capable of being kept into contact with a back surface of the cam portion 3 or the cam engagement portion 4, is formed on a back surface at a side opposite to an engagement surface, of the cam portion 3 or the cam engagement portion 4, the frictional contact portion 7 is disposed relatively rotatably to the cam portion 3 or the cam engagement portion 4 with which the frictional contact portion 7 is kept into contact, on the rotating shaft portion 5, further the frictional contact portion 7 is rotated with the rotation of the cam engagement portion 4 or the cam portion 3 engaged with the cam portion 3 or the cam engagement portion 4 with which the frictional contact portion 7 can be kept into contact, and a contact energizing mechanism is disposed for energizing the frictional contact portion 7 to the direction to be kept into contact with the back surface of the cam portion 3 or the cam engagement portion 4, or the frictional contact portion 7 is energized in the direction to be kept into contact with the back surface of the cam portion 3 or the cam engagement portion 4 by energizing force of an engagement energizing mechanism 6.
