PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a low back sofa is not very comfortable to sit as it does not allow a sitter to lean his/her back sufficiently on a backrest. SOLUTION: A sofa is provided with a seat and a backrest. The backrest includes a high side and a low side. The backrest turns with or separately from a shaft which supports the backrest so that it can be turned in a way that the low side faces ahead of the sofa when not in use and the high side faces upward or obliquely upward of the sofa when in use. The sofa is provided with at least one backrest. The backrests are formed to be attached on a single shaft or separate shafts in a way that they turns independently or together. A stopper mechanism which stops the backrest in a predetermined direction is connected to the backrest and the stopper mechanism is equipped with a fixture provided with two or more stopping section, a turning device which turns around the periphery of the fixture and is locked to the stopping section of the fixture, and a lock spring which brings the turning device into pressure contact with the stopping section of the fixture and latches the lock of the turning device to the stopping section.
