Disclosed is a material having charge-transporting properties, which contains a neutral metal complex having a partial structure represented by the general formula (1) below and at least two multidentate ligands, or such a metal complex structure. (In the formula, M represents a transition metal or a lanthanoid; Ar1 and Ar2 independently represent an optionally substituted divalent aromatic ring; and X₁ and X₂ independently represent P(Ar3)(Ar4), S or O. In this connection, Ar3 and Ar4 independently represent an optionally substituted monovalent aromatic ring.
