PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a conventional optical fiber amplifier that many parts of the same kinds are required for enabling bi-directional optical amplification which results in complex structure, the optical fiber amplifier oscillates if an optical isolator is removed for decreasing the number of parts of the optical fiber amplifier, and the optical fiber amplifier amplifies optical signals more than required to increase noise when it is oscillated.
SOLUTION: A rare earth ion-added optical fiber of an optical amplifier is fused to an optical splitter. A gain generated by the rare earth ion-added optical fiber is equal to loss generated by the optical splitter or higher, while being equal to the loss generated by the optical splitter added with a reflection loss of the optical connector or less.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
