PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for an X-ray device for improving segmentation of a substance based on X-ray images detected by use of two different X-ray energies. SOLUTION: This method for an X-ray device is for determining characteristic quantity in an image area 1 as a measure of homogeneity of a substance in an object. For at least two different X-ray energies E1 and E2, two X-ray images 5 and 6 having attenuation values Di(E1), Di(E2) (i=1, ..., N) representing attenuation of an X-ray penetrating the subject are detected. In the image range 1, the attenuation value Di(E1) of the X-ray image 5 detected by the first X-ray energy E1 and the attenuation value Di(E2) of the X-ray image 6 detected by the second X-ray energy E2 are used to form measurement pairs (D1(E1), D1(E2)), ..., (DN(E1), DN(E2)) for a corresponding picture element Di.
