PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a furnace body of a converter, in which spitting granular iron hardly deposits on the throat. SOLUTION: The furnace body of the top and bottom combined blown converter has height H, an inner diameter R of the throat, an inner diameter D of a straight body part of the furnace body, a volume Vi of molten steel which can be retained by the furnace body when the furnace body is tilted at 90 degrees toward a tapping side, and a total volume Vo in the furnace so that they can satisfy the expressions of: 2.828ln(R)+5.252≤H≤2.828ln(R)+7.3958; H/D≥1.4; and Vi/Vo≥0.06.
