The method of production of a fuel tank uses deep drawn metal shells. Identical tank sections are formed (4) by deep drawing to produce a cup shape having a sidewall (6) and a base (8), from a blank. To produce in intermediate tank section, the base (8) is removed or provided with a through opening. The intermediate tank section is then used between the normal tank sections. The sections can be formed with a waisted section to fit inside an adjacent section.
