The method involves positioning path sensors (14, 16) on both sides of a fiber sheet and measuring thickness of the fiber sheet. A set of beta radiation sensors (18, 20) is provided with a radiation source and a receiver or particle counter, where the counter counts the fiber sheet. The radiation source is provided adjacent to the path sensors and a retainer is arranged relative to the path sensors. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining specific volume of a fiber sheet.
