This invention provides a process for producing a two piece can. A circular plate of a laminated steel plate having a thermoplastic resin covering layer is subjected to multistage molding to form a final molded product having a final dimension of height h, maximum radius r, and minimum radius d including the case where r and d are the same. The molding is carried out in such a range that the relationship between the height h, maximum radius r, and minimum radius d and radius R of the circular plate before molding, which is equivalent to the weight of the final molded product, satisfies the following formulae: 0.1 = d/R = 0.25 and 1.5 = h/(R-r) = 4. During the molding, heat treatment is carried out by heating the molded product to a temperature at or above the melting point of a thermoplastic resin and at or below the melting point +30ºC.
