<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed of air flow passing through a hydrophobic filter. <P>SOLUTION: A part of the hydrophobic barrier (28) which extends into the interior of a liquid gas removal drip chamber (10) has a 3-dimensional surface. An inlet port (14) of the chamber is formed to shape liquid into droplets, and a healthcare professional can visually monitor the liquid drip rate. In addition, the hydrophobic barrier is configured so that no air space exists at the top of the drip chamber. The drip chamber includes a means for discharging air that is separated from the liquid within the chamber. The discharging means prevents air from entering the chamber through the venting means.
