PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent fruits and vegetables from being changed in a direction and being imparted with resistance in conveyance, even when large fruits and vegetables are conveyed, while inspecting precisely quality thereof, without changing a conveying means. SOLUTION: This instrument for measuring the quality of the fruits and vegetables is provided with a measuring light irradiation means 2 for irradiating the fruits and vegetables M conveyed by the conveying means 1 with a measuring light from conveying-directional one side or both sides thereof, a photoreception part 3 positioned in an upper side of the conveyed fruits and vegetables M to receive the measuring light moved upwards transmitted through the fruits and vegetables M, out of the measuring light emitted from the measuring light irradiation means 2 to the fruits and vegetables M, and a light shielding means 4 positioned in the conveying-directional both sides of the photoreception part 3 to shield the measuring light getting incident into a photoreception side through the upper faces of the fruits and vegetables M, and the light shielding means 4 is constituted of a driving rotor 5 at least with a contact part constituted of a flexible material, and contacting with the upper faces of the fruits and vegetables M to be drive-rotated at the speed substantially same to that of the conveying means 1.
