PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack and pinion type steering device capable of fixing a position of a retainer bush for sliding/supporting a rack bar without requiring high machining accuracy. SOLUTION: The rack and pinion type steering device is provided with a rack retainer 12 for retaining the rack bar at a back surface side of the rack bar 11; and the retainer bush 13 for sliding/supporting the rack bar on an upper surface of the rack retainer. When both members are assembled, a pair of fixing parts 19, 19 provided at both end sides positioned in a direction approximately perpendicular to the rack bar of the retainer bush are press-fitted to a pair of fitting grooves 17, 17 provided at positions opposed to the respective fixing parts of the rack retainer. While the retainer bush is elastically deformed, assembling is performed while pressing a seat part 18 of the retainer bush to a support surface 12a of the rack retainer. Thereby, clearance parts 28, 28 are formed between bottom surfaces of the respective fixing parts and bottom surfaces of the respective fitting grooves. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
