PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with a stick slip motion when a printing head performs the stick slip motion. SOLUTION: The printer is equipped with a printing head which carries out printing to a medium, a motor for moving the printing head, a guide part for guiding the printing head along a predetermined direction, a judging part which judges whether or not the printing head performs the stick slip motion, a characteristic detecting part which detects a motion characteristic of the stick slip motion, an acquiring part which acquires an estimated moving speed near a target stop position of the printing head on the basis of the motion characteristic detected by the characteristic detecting part, and a motor control part which controls the motor. When the motor is controlled to move the printing head at a constant speed not higher than a predetermined speed, in the case where it is determined that the printing head is performing the stick slip motion, the motor controlling part controls the motor so that the moving speed of the printing head becomes not higher than a predetermined allowable speed near the target stop position if the acquired estimated moving speed exceeds the predetermined allowable speed.
