Removing a filter cake (16) from a filter belt (14) which separates a foul tank (4) for cleaning solution (2) contaminated with greasy dirt from a clean tank (9) at a transfer port and runs continuously from the port to a blast pipe (25) and then back, so that dirt forms a filter cake on the belt while the solution flows through into tank (9) as purified filtrate (15) and cake is blown off the belt by air from the blast pipe into a settling tank (31) for removal, the blast air being sucked through the belt into the tank (31). An independent claim is included for a device for use in the above process, comprising the components given above plus a feeder device by means of which air is sucked out of the settling tank (31) and transferred to the blast piper (25) as blast air.
