The awning has a rear ridge section (10) arranged between a support bracket (12) and an awning housing, where the separately mountable ridge section is reinforced after the final assembly of the housing. The housing is insertable in a cup-form of the ridge section. The ridge section is formed as an extruded section, where a front edge (36) of the ridge section lies higher than a middle region of the ridge section. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a cassette awning.
