<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having high display quality without insufficient luminous energy even in a place with low intensity of external light such as indoors. <P>SOLUTION: The display device has a means for taking in external light, a first substrate and a second substrate opposing to the first substrate, wherein the means for taking in external light is adjoining to the side face of the second substrate, and external light taken in by the means for taking in external light enters the second substrate to function as an auxiliary light source of the display device.
