PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating m-xylene from an aromatic-hydrocarbon supply material, capable of separating m-xylene with good selectivity and adsorption capacity and improved mass transfer. SOLUTION: This method is for separating m-xylene from a hydrocarbon supply material containing an isomer having eight carbon atoms and comprises the following steps: a step wherein the supply material is brought into contact with a faujasite-type zeolite adsorbent, the percentage of water in the adsorbent is 0-8 wt.%, and the adsorption temperature is 25-250°C; a desorption step utilizing a solvent selected from among tetralin and its alkylated derivatives as a desorption agent; and a step for separating m-xylene from the desorption agent.
