PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cool a thermal head without using a cooling fun so as to prevent thermal storage. SOLUTION: Recording paper 12 is carried with a pair of carrying rollers 14 in paper supplying direction. Compressed air is sent into an air cylinder 15 by switching a solenoid valve 33 from an air supply source 32 while the recording paper 12 is supported by a platen roller 17, so that a thermal head 15 is set at a pressuring position. After setting, a heating element array 15a is made to generate heat so as to record an image in a recording area. Compressed air to be discharged from the air cylinder 31 and the solenoid valve 33 is discharged from a blowing air vent 35 via an air pipe 36, when the solenoid valve 33 switches compressed air. Compressed air is blown from the air vent 35 to the thermal head 15 according to the switching of the solenoid valve 33, and the thermal head 15 is thereby cooled in a short period of time.
