PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline cell excellent in high rated discharging performance. SOLUTION: The alkaline cell 1 is composed of: a bottomed cylinder-shaped battery can 2 utilizing bottom part as a cathode terminal part 3; a cathode mixture 4 composed of manganese dioxide and graphite as main components, arranged in the battery can 2 in hollow cylinder shape; a cylinder-shaped separator 5 fitted to inner periphery of the cathode mixture 4; an electrolyte stored in the battery can 2; a gelatinous anode 6 stored in an inner space of the separator 5 formed by dispersing zinc powder in the gelatinous electrolyte; and a sealing body 8 sealing an opening of the battery can 2. An electrolyte holding material 15 is arranged in a space contacting the inside of the cathode terminal part 3 of the battery can 2 inside the separator 5, and total amount of the electrolyte is increased by 3 to 33% comparing with when the electrolyte holding material 15 is not arranged.
