PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving assistance device for achieving safe and smooth merging at an intersection even if a communication area is narrowed by the influence of buildings or walls around vehicles. SOLUTION: When performing effective driving assistance in a merging assistance mode in which the degree of risk of merging is estimated on the assumption that messages are transferred by a communication means is difficult because the range of communication with other vehicles is narrowed by the influence of buildings or the like around one's own vehicle, driving assistance can be performed in an advance assistance mode in which information about whether or not other vehicles exist near the position of an intersection is provided without waiting for the transfer of message information. The driving assistance in the advance assistance mode allows the advance driving operation of the one's own vehicle to be performed safely up to a position where the driving assistance in the merging assistance mode can be performed effectively.
