PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display with better visibility and transmittance. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a first field-generating electrode including a plurality of sub-electrodes which are separated from each other by a prescribed distance and are arranged parallel to each other within a pixel region and a connecting electrode electrically connecting the sub-electrodes, and a first substrate including a first alignment film that is rubbed in a first direction covering the first field-generating electrode or a second substrate including a second field-generating electrode including a plurality of opening parts formed parallel to each other in a region corresponding to the pixel region of the fist substrate and a a second alignment film that is rubbed in a second direction covering the second field-generating electrode.
