The pipe joint fitting (1) has a radially outwardly bulged middle section to receive a seal ring . the end spigots of the fitting fit into the respective pipe ends (2) and have non-circular cross sections. The inner contour of the fitting is partially non-circular and there is an axial gap extending across the joint area between the pipe end and the fitting inner contour. The non-circular cross section can be oval or polygonal.
