The machine has a drive unit provided with a shaft that rotates around a rotating axis, and a tool fastened to the shaft of the drive unit. A stop and guiding device is provided with stop plates (15, 17, 26) that are positioned radial and axial to a tool axis (4). Two stop planes (13, 16, 28) are provided for supporting at a workpiece, where the plates are attached to two different functional areas of a multi-stage cutting tool (2) in a fixed manner. The functional areas are displaced parallel to the tool axis and opened at a front side and the cutting tool is fastened to the shaft.
