A mobile terminal for providing a password input function and its method are provided to solve a problem about the leakage of a password as a key manipulation sound and a key operation are exposed in inputting the password by using number keys. A memory unit(120) stores a program for implementing a password input function and a password of a mobile terminal. A key input unit(110) shifts a key positioned on a password input column and provides a button for increasing/decreasing each digit of an input start value. A display unit(130) displays the password input column by including the input start value therein, and displays an image of increasing/decreasing each digit of the input start value. When a key input signal for releasing a use restriction is received by the key input unit(110), a controller(140) generates the input start value and includes it in the password input column, and when a key input signal for increasing/decreasing the input start value by digits is received by the key input unit(110), the controller(140) controls the display unit(130) to display the image for increasing/decreasing each digit.
