PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Nb<SB>3</SB>Sn system superconducting wire rod and its precursor capable of being offered at low cost under excellent stretching processibility and giving a high-level superconductive property, through further improvement of a diffusion barrier layer separating a superconducting matrix part and a stabilized copper layer. SOLUTION: The Nb<SB>3</SB>Sn system superconducting wire rod precursor, in which a superconducting matrix part with a core material made of Nb or an Nb group alloy arranged in a Cu-Sn system alloy matrix is integrated with a stabilized copper layer through a diffusion barrier layer made of Nb or an Nb group alloy (provided, Nb-Ti is excluded), as a precursor with an Nb-Ti alloy layer provided between the superconducting matrix part and the diffusion barrier layer, as well as the Nb<SB>3</SB>Sn system superconducting wire rod subjecting the precursor to a wire-drawing process and a diffusion thermal process to give it a superconducting property, is provided.
