PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in a camera shake detection accuracy resulting from the operation of the function of removing foreign matters on the surface of an optical member by the use of vibration during the detection of a camera shake. SOLUTION: The operation (S4, S18) of a vibration detecting section and the operation (S1 to S3, S15 to S17) of a foreign matter removal section for removing the foreign matters on the surface of the optical member by vibration are prevented from coinciding. Alternatively, an operation time constant for detecting a camera shake during removal of the foreign matters is made small to prevent degradation of camera shake detection accuracy during the operation of removing the foreign matters.
