PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field coil short circuit motor having a high starting torque, which is equipped with a magnetic pole provided with a field coil having its winding start and winding end short-circuited in the magnetic field and with a magnetic pole provided with no field coil, and supplies electric current to an armature via a brush to relatively rotate the magnetic field and the armature. SOLUTION: The electric motor is equipped with the rotatably arranged magnetic field provided with the magnetic pole wound with a coil having its winding start and winding end short-circuited and with the magnetic poles without the coil, the armature having a commutator supplying power to the self-winding coil via the brush and fixedly disposed, the brush, and a brush holding part having the brush and rotatably disposed in the peripheral direction of the commutator. This electric motor is characterized in that the power is supplied from an AC power source. The magnetic field is formed so as to rotate in the direction same as the rotary direction of the brush, when the electrical angle of the brush is rotated by a specified angle from the neutral axis (electrical angle 0 degree).
