PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately perform cooling operation during hot and cold operation. SOLUTION: This hot and cold showcase having a detachable intermediate duct 9 dividing a merchandise display chamber 1 into an upper hot chamber 1A and a lower cold chamber 1B is constituted to take in cold air circulating around the merchandise display chamber 1 from one end of the intermediate duct 9, to blow it out from the other end and to cool only the cold chamber 1B by intercepting the inflow of cold air into the hot chamber 1A by the operation of a damper 10. The hot and cold showcase is switchingly operated into all cold operation of cooling the whole merchandise display chamber and into hot and cold operation of heating the hot chamber and cooling the cold chamber according to the current control of a heater for merchandise shelves 2 and the operation of the damper 10. The rotating speed of a fan 3 is controlled to reduce the circulating air quantity of cold air in the hot and cold operation than in the all cold operation, and at this time, the circulating air quantity is changed based on the number of merchandise shelves 2 to which the heater is energized.
