An outboard motor includes a mount unit. A drive unit can be mounted to a watercraft by the mount unit. The drive unit has a propulsion device generating thrust. An engine generates power. The engine has an oil pan containing lubricant which lubricates a portion of the engine. A power transmission mechanism transmits the power generated by the engine to the propulsion device. The power transmission mechanism has a speed reduction unit between the engine and the propulsion device. The speed reduction unit is enclosed by a housing. The housing has an opening directed upward. The oil pan of the engine closes the opening.
