A refrigerator and a control method for the same are provided to improve freezing cycle for preventing generation of dew in a refrigerating compartment by natural convection of chilled air, which is generated by an evaporator of a refrigerating compartment, and chilled air, which stays in the refrigerating compartment. A refrigerator includes fans respectively mounted in refrigerating and freezing compartments for supplying chilled air thereto, an atmospheric temperature sensor for detecting atmospheric temperature, and a multi-directional valve for supplying refrigerant to any one of evaporators in the refrigerating and freezing compartments. A control part controls a compressor and the multi-directional valve, and drives the fans until inner temperatures of the refrigerating and freezing compartments reach predetermined reference temperatures. The control part controls the multi-directional valve to supply the refrigerant to the evaporator of the refrigerating compartment, when the detected atmospheric temperature is low, the compressor is in operation and the fan of the refrigerating compartment stops operating. |
