<p>A DC electric motor is described, suitable for a fan and capable of operation over a wide range of supply voltage. Within the motor is an inductor winding (26) forming part of a switching DC-DC regulator which allows the motor to operate from e.g. 12 to 72 volts DC. The inductor is described as being wound about an interpole (28) of the stator, in the sense of a region of the stator that does not constitute a pole (22) of the stator. Regulator operating frequencies of 100 - 300 kHZ are indicated and, due to this frequency, any field induced in the stator does not affect the motor magnetics.</p> |
