METHOD FOR MANAGING IPV6 KERNEL-BASED PACKET FORWARDING IN IPV4 DISTRIBUTED ROUTER AND APPARATUS THEREOF

A method for controlling IPv6 kernel-based packet forwarding in a distributed router and an apparatus thereof are provided to manage an IPv6 interface and addresses on the basis of a kernel interface table, a kernel forwarding table, and a kernel neighbor table equipped in kernel of the distributed router, thereby providing the IPv6 packet forwarding based on the kernel within a short time and supplying a function for performing and managing the efficient forwarding by having a control software structure suitable for a distributed structure. A method for controlling IPv6(Internet Protocol version6) kernel-based packet forwarding in a distributed router comprises the following steps of: composing a kernel interface corresponding to all interfaces provided from the distributed router(S101); dividing tables for the IPv6 packet forwarding into a kernel forwarding table, a kernel interface table, and a kernel neighbor table and being provided with a kernel(S103); collecting the addresses of neighbor nodes connected to an interface of the router(S105); and performing the IPv6 packet forwarding in a line card process kernel or a routing process kernel on the basis of the kernel forwarding table, the kernel interface table, and the kernel neighbor table, and the addresses(S107).
