The protective pants are provided with a warning device which the wearer of the pants can activate for generating an audible alarm or an alarm remote from the wearer. The pants can, in addition, be provided with a global positioning system by means of which the location of the wearer can be determined from a remote location. The pants are provided with a belt which may be locked about the wearer's waist to prevent the pants from being removed unless the wearer intends to remove them.
