The traffic light includes a box with a luminous transparent wall, and independent groups of several LEDs disposed within the box and facing the transparent wall. A control system, preferably a microprocessor, operates lighting ON and OFF of the LEDs in each group. Furthermore, each group of LEDs is divided into two sub groups containing equal number of LEDs. One sub group in one LED group is intermingled and operable with the sub groups of other LED groups. The combined sub groups can be alternately turned ON/OFF.
