Provided is a method for starting a fuel cell system, which significantly reduces the time required for increasing the temperature of a shift reaction catalyst, and thus significantly reduces the time required for normal operation. The method for starting a fuel cell system comprises the steps of: firing fuel in a first burner(15) of a reformer(10) to heat the reformer; and passing the gas discharged from the first burner through a shift reactor(20). After the above steps, the materials discharged from the shift reactor are fired in a second burner, which have a molar ratio of oxygen to hydrocarbon of greater than 1:1. The heat generated from the second burner may be supplied to the cathode of a fuel cell stack. The gas discharged from the first burner and introduced into the shift reactor has a temperature of 150-500 deg.C. |
