LOW-SULFUR METAL-BASED DETERGENT-DISPERSANT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a detergent-dispersant scarcely causing corrosion and having a low sulfur content and a high total base number (TBN). SOLUTION: This method for producing the detergent-dispersant of an alkylhydroxybenzoate having the low sulfur content and the high TBN is provided. An alkylhydroxybenzoic acid alkali metal salt reaction product, an alkylhydroxybenzoic acid alkaline earth metal salt reaction product, and a perbasic alkylhydroxybenzoic acid alkaline earth metal salt reaction product each have the sulfur content in a range of about 0.1-1.2 mass% and are each used as the effective corrosion inhibitory detergent-dispersant in a lubricating oil composition.
