PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil agent for a carbon fiber precursor, capable of preventing fusion between single fibers, even under such a condition that yarn threads have a high density and high tension, capable of smoothly conducting supply of oxygen in a flameproofing treatment process, and therefore suitable for producing a carbon fiber having an excellent performance, to provide the carbon fiber precursor given by using the same, and to provide a method for producing the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: This oil agent for the carbon fiber precursor comprises liquid fine particles containing a liquid having a dynamic viscosity of≥15,000 cSt at 150°C as an essential component. The carbon fiber precursor is formed by being furnished with the oil agent. The method for producing the carbon fiber comprises subjecting the carbon fiber precursor to flameproofing treatment, and then subjecting the treated precursor to carbonizing treatment.
