PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photonic band gap fiber (PBGF) having a broad waveguide band and a low transmission loss. SOLUTION: A lot of first pore lines 22, in which a lot of hexagonal pores 21 are aligned with a first pitchΛon a line on the cross section of a fiber via a partition, and a lot of second pore lines 23, in which a lot of hexagonal pores are aligned with a second pitchΓwhich is twice the first pitch via a hexagonal quartz part 20 and the aforesaid pores and the pores in the first pore lines are arranged to form triangle lattices, are alternately laminated. The PBGF is characterized in that the PBGF has a core in which a clad has an expanded triangular lattice pore periodic structure in which the lengthω<SB>r</SB>between two opposing sides of the quartz part is substantially equal to the first pitchΛand pore cores or a lot of hexagonal pores are aligned in triangles.
