PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of easily obtaining a more uniform and highly precise electrification gap, thereby performing a stable and excellent electrification in a shaft direction in a non-contact electrification for an image carrier by the electrification gap set by bringing gap members at both ends of an electrifying roller into press-contact with the image carrier. SOLUTION: Since the part 3a<SB>1</SB>of the electrifying roller 3a between a pair of gap members 3d and 3e is pressed toward a photoreceptor 2 by a cleaning member 3h for the electrifying roller 3a, the electrifying roller 3a and the photoreceptor 2 are forcibly bent in the same direction each other. Thus, the electrification gap G between the electrifying roller 3a and the photoreceptor 2 is kept equal to or under a fixed value (50μm) and made nearly constant in the shaft direction. Therefore, the electrification for the photoreceptor 2 by the electrifying roller 3a is made uniform in the shaft direction, and the stable and excellent electrification is obtained over a long term.
