PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluid switch composed by solving a problem of a conventional product by covering an electrically conductive element with a passivation layer. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a switch includes first and second substrates defining therebetween a number of cavities. A plurality of electrically conductive elements extend near to at least one of the cavities. A switching fluid, held within the at least one of the cavities, serves to electrically, but not physically, couple and decouple at least a pair of the electrically conductive elements, in response to forces that are applied to the switching fluid. The passivation layer functions (i) to separate the one of the electrically conductive elements from the at least one of the cavities, and (ii) as a dielectric for a capacitor formed between the one of the electrically conductive elements and the switching fluid.
