PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge tube easy to manufacture and of low cost by arranging an outer coil 4 at an outer periphery of each end part of a fluorescent tube 1 with both ends sealed without installing electrodes inside the tube. SOLUTION: An outer coil 4 is arranged at an outer periphery of one end of the fluorescent tube 1 with both ends sealed by sealing in low-pressure discharge gas inside the tube, an outer electrode 6 is arranged at outside of the other end of the fluorescent tube 1, and an alternate-current power source 5 is connected between the outer coil 4 and the outer electrode 6. Further, outer coils 4, 4 are arranged at an outer periphery of either end of the fluorescent tube 1, and an alternate-current power source 5 or alternate-current power sources 5, 5 are connected to the outer coils 4, 4.
