An economical method of processing wood and a compressed wood product processed according to the method are provided. According to the method, the compressed wood product can be processed with a smaller number of parts through a smaller number of process steps even when a translucent portion is provided in a part of the compressed wood product. A wooden piece (41) is processed into a predetermined three-dimensional shape by compression so that the wooden piece (41) includes a portion (11) whose compression rate in a thickness direction of the wooden piece (41) is at least 0.75 and more preferably at least 0.80 and the portion (11) transmits light. The compression is realized by a pair of metal molds (51 and 61). When the compression rate is required to be higher in a certain portion than in other portion, a protruding portion (53) is formed at a corresponding position of at least one metal mold (51).
